“The right bra should feel like support, not restriction.
Choose what makes you feel secure, comfortable, and confident.”

1. ✅ Wider Straps for Maximum Support

  • Choose wide, padded straps to reduce shoulder pressure.

  • Wide straps improve posture and help evenly support any added weight (like prostheses).

2. 🌿 Soft, Gentle Fabrics

  • Look for bras made from cotton, bamboo, or modal.

  • Avoid scratchy lace, rough seams, or synthetic fabrics.

  • Seamless and tagless styles reduce irritation on sensitive skin.

3. 🛡️ Wider Side Panels for Scar Comfort

  • A wider underarm panel provides:

  • Scar coverage

  • Smoother silhouette (no overhang)

  • More comfort post-surgery or after lymph node removal

4. ❌ Avoid Underwires

  • Underwires can press against healing tissue and scars.

  • Choose wire-free bras with molded cups or internal support bands.

  • Reconstructive patients should consult their doctor about wire use.

5. 📏 Always Get Remeasured

  • Post-surgery, your size and shape may change.

  • Visit a certified mastectomy fitter for proper sizing.

  • Ask your provider—many insurance plans cover post-mastectomy bras!

6. 💡 Helpful Features to Look For

  • Pockets for Prostheses: Secure your inserts don't think they will stay put by just tucking them inside the cup

  • Larger Closures: Easier with limited arm mobility

  • Gentle Compression: May help with swelling and comfort so don't think that you need to go bigger.  It is definitely not always better
